Lloyd PARK(ing) Day 2023

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our Lloyd PARK(ing) Day event! Go Lloyd collaborated with the Lloyd EcoDistrict and The Street Trust to take over three parking spaces on NE 9th Avenue and NE Multnomah Street. With the intention of rethinking how street space is used by giving it back to people, instead of cars, we set up a mini dog park, shady public seating, portable trees, community coloring activities, plus coffee and snacks. The corner, near Lloyd Center’s plaza, was brought to life by artwork donated by Mike Bennett, and Becca from the delightful Department of Public Dance, who danced across the crosswalk with passersby between noon and 1 PM.

Lloyd residents have often expressed interest in having dog-friendly public green spaces, which inspired the mini dog park and doggy spa theme (check out this pooch’s painted nails below!). Many Lloyd neighbors and their pups stopped by to take a break and learn about PARK(ing) Day and the important work of our three organizations. Go Lloyd was honored to welcome Congressman Earl Blumenauer to our event and represent the neighborhood. We also had guests from Bike Loud, Parking Reform Network, and the City of Portland. The Street Trust brought their e-bike (available for rental) for people to safely test ride, and Bike Loud showed off their new bike lane sweeper.

We so loved the community atmosphere and sharing our love of active, sustainable, accessible transportation with our guests! See you at next year’s PARK(ing) Day!

Broadway in Bloom

Go Lloyd was proud to participate in Lloyd EcoDistrict’s Broadway in Bloom event on Friday, July 14. Despite the heat, hundreds of people came by to enjoy the festivities. Sustainability-focused vendors and guests filled the street on NE 17th Avenue (which was closed to car traffic), enjoying food and drinks from Broadway Grill and lively music from the Bottleneck Blues Band.

Go Lloyd assisted in the planning and coordination of Broadway in Bloom, which included securing temporary bike racks and a free mobile bike mechanic, who provided free repairs and tune-ups. Mitch, the knowledgeable mechanic with PDX Mobile Bike Repair, performed safety checks and got over a dozen bikes road-ready throughout the day. His canine sidekick, Buck, supervised the repairs!

Lawn games, face painting, 15-minute massages (provided by Float North), community connections, and more created a joyful evening environment. Go Lloyd loves taking back the streets to make space for people, rather than parked and moving motorized vehicles. Thank you to all the community members who stopped by! We’re looking forward to seeing you at our next event—Party on, Portland!

Call for Lloyd Vendors!

This is a call for Lloyd businesses, food vendors, and organizations that want to participate in the Blumenauer Bridge Opening Event on July 31, 2022!

The day will include a variety of community-led bike rides and neighborhood activities. New plazas on the north and south sides of the bridge, as well as nearby destinations in Lloyd and Central Eastside, will have pop-up block parties and open streets.

We will be filling up the bridge’s north landing at NE 7th Avenue and NE Lloyd Blvd with vendors and tents—join us!

The event is expected to attract hundreds of attendees and will begin with a press conference and news media at noon.

Contact ophelia@golloyd.org by July 10 to sign up to participate in the event.
